DESCRIPTION:Our June chapter meeting with be a joint event hosted by our chapter and the Western New York chapter. \nSpeaker: Lisa Taranto\, “Thank the Soil for Everything!” \nBeneath our feet there is a thin layer of complex and sophisticated activity which never fully stops. Some might call it magical. Trillions of life forms are constantly exchanging information and energy. And this tiny to microscopic life is what supports terrestrial viability. And like all natural systems\, it is seriously compromised by human activity. The dynamic relationships between bacteria\, fungi\, decomposers and the rhizosphere are only recently revealing their stories to us\, as they have been quietly working in the dark for eons. We will look at the BIG picture of the consequences our actions have had on global soils\, and current understandings of where we are headed\, and what can be done to rebuild respect and regeneration of this incredibly fascinating realm. \nOur chapter meetings are held on Zoom. DESCRIPTION:We will host Jeremy Liskar\, Legislative Coordinator for Climate Reality. While studying political science and public policy at George Washington University\, Jeremy led a successful fossil fuel divestment campaign and helped significantly up the ambition of his university’s climate plan. Before joining Climate Reality\, he organized with the Sunrise Movement to help create the conditions for winning climate action and justice at the scale needed. \nJeremy will talk about the implications of the new Federal Legislation pertaining to what we do as individuals and in our communities to speed greenhouse gas reduction. Also\, he will cover ideas of what may be next for Our Climate Moment after the Build Back Better Act is passed. He is interested in hearing our thoughts\, and all are welcome and encouraged to contribute to this discussion. \nWe will also announce the slate of next year’s officers. Ballot information will then be sent out for voting\, which will continue through December 31. \nYou can watch a recording of this meeting here. \n
