A NY LLC calling itself Southern Tier Solutions, is proposing a project that would frack the Marcellus Shale in Broome and surrounding counties. The proposal replace high pressure hydrofracking (water) with CO2 fracking. The health and safety concerns remain the same and in some cases are more profound when CO2 is used. Additionally, there is very little data around the implications of the proposed process.
The Climate Reality Project, along with many other leading climate, environmental and justice organizations are allied in the effort to stop STS from fracking the Marcellus Shale in NY state. For those of us that are new to this journey and those who have traveled this way before, reviewing the past will inform the future.
