Cornell on Fire is a campus-climate movement calling on Cornell to confront the climate emergency. As climate disruption intensifies and our window of action narrows, our independent research finds that Cornell University is failing to deliver on its pledged greenhouse gas emissions reductions or report that fact, while relying on inadequate strategies for future emissions reductions. Our research brings together insights from experts, insiders, public data, and climate research to outline what Cornell is doing, can, and must do. We believe that as a world leader in science and education, Cornell’s adoption of genuine climate leadership would have positive implications for Ithaca’s community and ecosystem, for regional climate policy, and for universities as global norm-setting institutions whose role is to communicate science for the public interest — and to act on that science.
